Essay: Social Media

Over the last decade millions and millions of people have joined social media sites and keep doing it up to present day. Nowadays, there is probably not a single person who has not got at least one kind of social media. However, it is believed that since their introduction to our lives they have only had a negative impact. 

It is a well-known fact that social network made it easier for us to communicate as they allow us to chat or keep up with people’s lives through their posts. Nevertheless, there are many disadvantages that top the good aspects of these sites. Addiction is one of the problems that affect society the most. People spend more time on social media than actually hanging out with others face to face, and when they do, instead of talking they are mostly checking their phones. Moreover, this has sometimes caused the creation of fake images. Some people may turn themselves into someone they are not in order to receive approval and be popular among other users.
Far from solving our lives, social media will manage to destroy them completely. In a not-so-distant future, all our contact will be through the internet with little or no human interaction at all, leading to more sedentarily living styles.
To conclude, although social media sites have the intention to make human interaction more comfortable, our abuse of them has only brought disadvantages. I believe this can only be reverted if we stop depending so much upon them.
